Some couples may feel railroaded into marriage, but that suits Wendy Smith and Ed Fouse just fine. The Kokomo couple got hitched Thursday aboard the Indiana State FairTrain at the Fishers Train Station.
“We both work with the railroad museum and, I come from four generations of railroad; Ed has grown up with trains his whole life; it just seemed to fit us,” Smith said.
The couple met two years ago when Fouse bid on a project at the Kokomo apartment complex Smith manages. Eventually, they discovered their mutual passion for trains and each other. Fouse encouraged his Smith to join him as a volunteer at the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville.
Dressed in their official conductor’s uniforms, the couple exchanged vows on the platform of the museum’s vintage private business coach. The ceremony was one for the books for Rev. Dan Purvis who made the trip to Fishers from the Faith Tabernacle Church in Kokomo.
“Definitely one of the most different ones I’ve done,” Purvis said.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds, family and friends boarded the train and headed for the Indiana State Fair.
“We’re all going to have big family fun at the fair and then we’ll continue on tonight at our house for the reception…and just get things started off with a bang,” Fouse said.
